East Village Green: A New Center of Gravity
How the highly anticipated park will create a stronger gathering place, support surrounding businesses and improve the everyday neighborhood experience.

Scope of Work / Strategic Growth / August 2026
Shaping how San Diego sees, experiences and supports East Village.
Prepared for the East Village Association by Solid State Marketing
East Village is already one of San Diego's most visible and consequential urban neighborhoods. Home to Petco Park, more than 700 businesses, major residential development, cultural institutions, restaurants, hotels and entertainment, the district has no shortage of activity. The challenge is turning that activity into a stronger, more cohesive destination identity that gives people a reason to explore East Village beyond game days and major events.
East Village is also navigating a significant perception gap. New residential towers, ambitious businesses and continued investment exist alongside highly visible street-level challenges, including homelessness encampments and related public-space challenges. Marketing cannot resolve these conditions directly, but it can ensure they do not define the district's story. East Village needs a communications strategy that makes progress visible, builds confidence, supports its businesses and presents a more complete and credible picture of a district still evolving.
Through proactive media strategy, social-first storytelling, distinctive campaigns and stronger business, development and community narratives, Solid State will help East Village Association establish a clearer voice for the neighborhood. The goal is not simply to promote what is happening, but to connect the district's assets, spotlight the people and projects moving it forward and shape how San Diego experiences East Village next.
The result will be a public presence that matches East Village's ambition, strengthening confidence in the district while driving discovery, participation and economic momentum.
Solid State will not treat East Village like a calendar of announcements. We will build a modern district communications engine designed to influence perception, convert attention into exploration and ensure the neighborhood's most visible challenges do not overshadow its businesses, culture, investment and momentum.
PR, social media, paid amplification and community storytelling will operate as one connected system, each channel reinforcing the others and giving East Village a clearer, more credible and more influential public voice.
East Village should not be defined by isolated headlines, game-day traffic or street-level challenges alone. We will establish a stronger editorial point of view that consistently shows what is opening, improving, growing and worth experiencing across the district. New businesses, development milestones, public-space improvements, beautification efforts and community initiatives will become recurring proof points, transformed into visual, specific and shareable stories that build confidence over time.
East Village already attracts major audiences through Petco Park, conventions, concerts and citywide events. Our strategy will move those audiences beyond the obvious destinations through curated routes, neighborhood guides, pregame and postgame content, business collaborations and targeted campaigns that encourage people to stay longer and return more often.
The most persuasive East Village story is not institutional. It is human. We will elevate the founders, chefs, artists, retailers, residents, developers and community voices shaping the neighborhood, turning more than 700 businesses into a living network of personalities, experiences and stories.
Social media will move beyond flyers, ribbon cuttings and predictable event recaps. We will create timely video, creator-led discovery, useful neighborhood guides, real-time coverage and recurring editorial concepts designed around how audiences actually discover places today.
Monthly reporting will do more than document impressions and placements. We will identify what is shifting perception, which stories are moving audiences, where paid support is creating value and what East Village Association should do next. Findings will be translated into clear recommendations for EVA leadership, Board and DI&P Committee discussions.
Objective
Turn East Village's businesses, people, culture and momentum into sustained media relevance that changes perception and inspires greater exploration and support.
Build a distinctive media narrative around East Village as the place where San Diego's major urban forces intersect: sports, hospitality, culture, housing, development, entrepreneurship and public-space transformation. The story is not simply that East Village is growing. It is that the district offers a real-time view of how Downtown San Diego is changing.
East Village is visually and culturally layered: landmark destinations and independent businesses, major development and historic spaces, game-day intensity and everyday neighborhood life. We will turn those contrasts into thoughtful, credible stories, shaping a district that cannot be reduced to one image or perception.
East Village's Opening Weekend Block Party already demonstrates the district's ability to turn Padres-related traffic into broader visibility for local businesses, entertainment, food and retail. We will build on that model, using games, concerts, conventions and major events as entry points into wider stories about the surrounding restaurants, bars, hotels, retailers, artists and neighborhood experiences.
Position East Village Association as a responsive, credible resource. Outreach will be tailored across local, regional, national and Baja California media, matching each story to the audience and market where it has the strongest relevance.

Stories With the Power to Shift Perception

East Village Green: A New Center of Gravity

Beyond Opening Day
How the East Village Opening Weekend Block Party can become a model for turning Padres traffic into broader visibility for local food, retail, arts and entertainment.

The Infrastructure Behind a Better East Village Experience
How sanitation, lighting, public-space improvements and other practical investments are creating a cleaner, more welcoming and more connected district.

The Businesses Beneath the Skyline
Meet the chefs, founders, retailers, artists and independent operators creating East Village's identity at street level.

From Ballpark District to Dining Destination
How restaurants and hospitality concepts such as Callie are giving people reasons to visit even when the Padres are not playing.
Proof, not promises. Three campaigns that show how we reposition places, launch brands into crowded markets and turn ideas into demand.

Case Study / Garden City, Idaho
The Challenge
Garden City's Boise River corridor had the natural ingredients of a destination, Greenbelt access, waterfront recreation, growing residential density and proximity to Boise, but lacked cohesive hospitality identity, consistent programming and a clear reason for people to experience the area as one connected place.
At the center of the opportunity was The Boardwalk, a mixed-use development with restaurants, residences, public gathering space and future event venues. Before reopening, the property represented one of the market's toughest hospitality challenges. Four restaurant concepts had failed in the space, nearby restaurant vacancies sat empty for years with few willing to invest, and years of inconsistent operations had all but erased consumer confidence. At the same time, Garden City continued to battle outdated perceptions compared to neighboring Boise, making the path to success even steeper.

“This was not a traditional opening campaign. It was a district-wide destination reset.”
One integrated framework: launch the concepts, program the district and build the partnerships that made momentum visible.
The FrameworkOne Integrated Strategy
Connected PR, social, paid media, influencers, email, websites, partnerships, events and grand openings under one destination narrative.
Launch the Concepts
Led integrated openings for Descanso Bar, Ground Rules, Spitfire Tacos & Tequila and Earlybird Breakfast Burritos, giving each a distinct identity while strengthening The Boardwalk.

Create Reasons to Return
Developed and promoted a growing calendar of events including the Greenbelt Night Market, Experience Garden City, live music, watch parties and seasonal activations.

Build the Network
Strengthened relationships with Visit Garden City, the Mayor's office, the Chamber, media and community partners, becoming a source of stories, assets and content.

Drive Visible Momentum
Created a steady cadence of openings, media coverage, influencer visits, live entertainment and public events to replace the area's past narrative with proof of change.
A district revitalization made visible through openings, events, media, creators and community partners.
Progress to Date
4 New Concepts Launched
Integrated grand-opening support for Descanso Bar, Ground Rules, Spitfire Tacos & Tequila and Earlybird Breakfast Burritos.
Greenbelt Night Market Created and Launched
An original concept we created, branded and launched, now the district's recurring marquee event and a standing reason to return to the waterfront.
greenbeltnightmarket.com →Recurring District Programming
Live music, watch parties, seasonal activations, community events and cross-concept programming.
Integrated Visibility Across Channels
PR, social, influencer outreach, paid campaigns, email, websites and partner amplification under one strategy.
Civic & Tourism Partnerships Built
Visit Garden City, the Mayor's office, the Chamber and community partners, supplied with stories, content and assets.
Reputation Reset Underway
The story shifted from short-lived concepts toward visible investment and sustained momentum, with more to come this fall and winter through Peregrine Overlook, Garden City's only Greenbelt rooftop bar and event center.
We did not book an event. We invented a platform.

One-off activations like Experience Garden City create a spike. The Greenbelt Night Market was built to create a habit. We developed the idea, named and branded it, built its website and social presence, recruited makers, food and music vendors, secured civic and tourism partners and marketed every edition, turning an underused stretch of waterfront into a scheduled destination the market plans its weekends around.
Owned Concept
Original idea, name, brand identity, website and social channels created in house rather than sponsoring someone else's event.
Recurring by Design
A repeating series instead of a single date, so awareness compounds edition over edition instead of resetting each time.
Traffic Engine for the District
Every market night delivers crowds directly to Descanso, Ground Rules, Spitfire and Earlybird, converting foot traffic into covers.
Community Anchor
Local makers, food vendors and musicians alongside Visit Garden City and Chamber partners, making the waterfront feel like a civic gathering place.
Always On Story
A renewable media and content hook that keeps Garden City in listings, calendars, creator feeds and coverage between openings.
Complements One Off Moments
Experience Garden City and seasonal activations layer on top of the market cadence rather than carrying the calendar alone.

Case Study / Randy's Donuts, Las Vegas
Launching a legendary LA brand into a 24/7 tourist economy.
The Challenge
Randy's was entering the ultra-competitive Las Vegas culinary scene, where standing out is notoriously difficult. A legendary Los Angeles brand had to earn relevance in a saturated 24/7 tourist and local market, with excitement built before opening and sustained through every operational milestone that followed.
Five-Phase Campaign
A staged PR arc built to create repeat news waves rather than a single opening-day spike.
Own the Announcement
Secured citywide coverage from major Las Vegas outlets from first announcement through opening.
Go Multi-Format
Delivered exposure across broadcast, digital, print and social so the story reached every audience.
Engineer the Moments
Built headline-worthy beats: the giant donut tour, sellouts, hour changes and the 24/7 return.
Activate the Taste-Makers
Donut drops to casinos, concierge desks, VIP hosts, promoters, DJs and influencers.
“We drove Randy's iconic giant donut around Las Vegas. News crews literally followed, pulled over our team, and conducted on-the-spot interviews.”
Turning decades of brand equity into opening-day demand.
Progress to DateDistinct tentpole news narratives, each achieving citywide media saturation.
Multiple rounds of earned media coverage across TV, digital, print and social.
Cross-collaborations with celebrity DJ headliners including Zedd, Deadmau5 and Steve Aoki.
Sold out on opening day for the first time in 70 years, a viral moment that became its own story.
Supported a return to 24/7 operations after unprecedented demand.
Foot traffic increases that exceeded projections and built long-term local loyalty.
Every milestone was engineered as its own news cycle, generating separate, strategically timed rounds of coverage instead of a single opening-day spike. Each wave earned significantly more placements than shown here. The links below are representative samples of the coverage secured in that cycle.

Case Study / San Diego, CA
Allegro Little Italy
How a strategy session turned an evergreen month into a viral, product-led social moment.
The Challenge
Allegro entered April with healthy baseline demand, but no major seasonal campaign, holiday hook or built-in cultural moment capable of driving incremental attention. Rather than default to discounts or generic seasonal messaging, Solid State led a creative brainstorm focused on developing a menu item with real viral potential, something visually irresistible, culturally credible and strong enough to generate its own momentum on social.
Start with behavior
Look for the kind of dining moment people already love to film, share and send to friends.
Build for virality
The goal was not just engagement. The item needed enough visual pull to travel organically across creator, guest and local food content.
Choose something ownable
The idea had to feel specific to Allegro, not like a generic item any restaurant could run.
Make it instantly visual
The item needed to read immediately on camera and stop the scroll without explanation.
Elevate the detail
Importing authentic bowls from Italy transformed a simple dessert into a signature experience.
Why Lemon Sorbet Won
Visual: Bright, recognizable and highly photogenic.
Brand-fit: Italian, elevated and naturally aligned with Allegro.
Viral: Built to travel across creator, guest and organic social.
Commercial: Strong enough to drive demand, not just engagement.
“The smartest move was not creating more marketing. It was creating something built to go viral.”
A product-led idea translated into measurable demand.
10%
Sales Growth
Sales increased 10% during the campaign window from 4/15 to 5/15.
30%
Year-Over-Year Growth
The same period finished 30% above the prior year.
Demand Exceeded Forecasts
Allegro sold through its sorbet inventory as interest accelerated.
Additional Bowls Imported From Italy
The restaurant reordered the signature vessels to support continued demand and preserve the presentation that made the item recognizable.
Creator & Guest Amplification
Influencer coverage and organic guest content expanded the campaign well beyond Allegro's owned channels.
A Repeatable Signature Was Created
What began as a brainstorm became a recognizable menu moment with ongoing brand and revenue value.

Broad hospitality experience. Proven destination thinking. Deep San Diego market knowledge.
Solid State brings senior-level communications experience across restaurants, hotels, nightlife, mixed-use developments, destination districts and lifestyle brands.
Our work extends beyond individual businesses. We have helped reposition districts, neighborhoods and multi-concept developments by connecting hospitality, events, public spaces, culture and community into a stronger destination identity.
We replace outdated narratives with credible proof of progress across earned media, social content, businesses, events and public-facing experiences.
Our portfolio spans luxury dining, neighborhood restaurants, bars, hotels, nightlife, entertainment and multi-unit concepts. That breadth allows us to understand different audiences, price points and guest motivations - without applying the same strategy to every brand.
Our team understands the audiences, media landscape, hospitality ecosystem and neighborhood dynamics shaping San Diego. We know how Downtown districts compete for attention, how visitors move between neighborhoods and how local perceptions influence where people choose to spend their time and money.
Our perspective is rooted in the neighborhood but informed by experience across broader hospitality and destination markets. We know how to make a local story relevant to regional and national audiences without stripping away what makes it distinctive.
Strategy, media relations, social direction and account leadership remain directly connected to senior agency leadership, not filtered through multiple layers of junior staff.
We offer the reach and perspective of a global hospitality agency, with the local fluency of a team already embedded in the neighborhood.
The people who pitch the work are the people who do the work.

Prepared For
East Village Association of San Diego
Strategic Growth / PR & Social Media Proposal
August 2026
Building the identity East Village deserves.
Social Media & Influencers
Objective
Transform East Village's social channels into the district's most useful, current and culturally relevant source for discovery, momentum and a living, credible expression of the district.
Turn the Feed Into East Village's Editorial Desk
Create a recognizable media brand with a clear point of view, recurring franchises and stronger creative direction. Less organizational bulletin board. More authoritative city guide, neighborhood publication and real-time district voice.
Organize 130 Blocks Into Discoverable Experience
Make East Village easier to navigate through curated dining clusters, arts and culture routes, pregame plans, late-night itineraries and guides built around the district's most active pockets. The account should help audiences confidently decide where to go, what to do and how to connect multiple East Village businesses in one visit.
Build an Influence Network, Not an Invite List
Develop ongoing creator relationships that generate different perspectives and sustained familiarity with East Village.
Move at the Speed of the City
Create timely content around openings, local news, seasonal moments, restaurant buzz, neighborhood conversations and real-time happenings while audiences are still paying attention.
Make Businesses Contributors, Not Content Requests
Build a system for businesses to surface openings, milestones, personalities and timely stories, then shape the strongest inputs into polished district-wide narratives rather than isolated reposts.
Use Paid Media With Purpose
Deploy targeted spend around major events, seasonal campaigns, new openings and neighborhood priorities to drive discovery, attendance, website activity and sustained visibility across San Diego.
